Summer Portfolio Challenge

 DIVE INTO THE DEEP END WITH PROFESSORS DEVLIN AND BRENEK

Here is how this works. Starting June 4th, you and a partner will be given the 1st of two creative briefs to work on throughout the summer. You will have two weeks to brainstorm and develop your creative executions for each brief. Your executions should be part of a big idea that is then well-executed into a campaign that can be put into your portfolio. After each two-week session, you will submit your project to be judged, and then following afternoon, we will provide feedback, announce winners, and then kick-off the next brief. Below are the dates you will want to mark down.

June 18: Feedback #1 Live Meeting with Judges/Kick-off #2 (meet via Zoom)

July 1: Campaign #2 Submitted (submit to shared google drive)

July 2: Feedback #2 Live Meeting with Judges/Wrap-Up (meet via Zoom)

FAQs

DO I HAVE TO HAVE THE SAME PARTNER EACH TIME?

No, you can work with a new partner each time. Each person interested in participating in this one month long program will be able to keep one partner/teammate, or can pick a new one each brief if you want to try different collaborations. Ask your friends if they are signing up, and feel free to come in with some teammates in mind. If you don’t have a teammate during kick-off, we will help match people.

DO I HAVE TO WORK WITH A PARTNER?

No, you can work alone, but remember - brainstorms are best done in teams, and your weaknesses may align with someone else’s strengths - so why not use them?

HOW ARE PARTNERS SELECTED?

You can pick you partner if there are people from class you like working with. If you do not have a partner at the start of each kickoff, we will help pair you up with someone or a group.

DO I HAVE TO PARTICIPATE IN EVERY BRIEF CHALLENGE IF I SIGN UP?

Nope, this is 100% voluntary. We are here to help you grow and pad your portfolio. You can participate in as many as you feel you have time for. We just ask that if you start a brief (especially if it is with a partner), you finish that project so time and energy is not wasted. This is stress free, no grades or credit attached.

HOW DO WE SUBMIT OUR WORK?

You will submit your executions as a PDF document, similar to what you have done in Creative 2 and/or Portfolio class. We need one single PDF document, one execution per page. You will upload your document to a shared Google Drive. The link to this drive will be provided during our kick-off meeting.

I AM GRADUATING IN MAY. SHOULD I USE MY UNIVERSITY EMAIL ADDRESS TO SIGN UP?

No. You are graduating, and will lose access at some point. Please use your personal email to sign up.

IF I AM STILL A STUDENT OR NEEDING SUMMER CREDIT, WILL THE COUNT FOR COURSE CREDIT?

No, this will not count towards any credit. If you are still a student, you are welcome to participate, and can use any email you wish. Again, this is stress free. No grades. No fuss. Just fun and creating for the sake of improving.

DO I HAVE TO PAY FOR THIS?

No, this is a free summer program. We are here to help you grow, and hope that one day when you are a big shot Creative Director, you will come back to help the next batch of students! :)
